Bender, Anderson and Barba, P.C. provides continuing education for both client and non-client board members of homeowner associations. We believe that education empowers boards to effectively and confidently run their associations. This firm sponsors seminars on substantive topics throughout the year to provide information board members need to run their associations. Past topics include: Basic Board Orientation Seminar; Fixing the Stuff that Breaks: Understanding and Reconciling Insurance and Maintenance/Repair; Responsibilities Set Forth in the Documents; Handling Difficult People; Insurance issues facing condominiums; Litigation: Collections and Document Enforcement; Capital Improvements and Association Borrowing; and Running Difficult Meetings. Working with property managers, we are able to provide guidance and direction with the goal of managing conflict within homeowners associations.

    Community Associations: The Community Associations Institute provides valuable programs and publications to board members. The Connecticut, New England and National Chapters of the Community Associations Institute are available at the following websites:
    Working with contractors: It is important that the vendors who provide you with home improvement services, such as painting, roofing etc., are registered with the State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection. There is a “guarantee fund” provided by the State which is only available if the vendor is currently licensed through the State of Connecticut.     Property Manager: Your property manager must be registered with the State of Connecticut. Check the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Department at the following link in order to determine whether your property manager is properly registered:
    Corporate Status: To maintain your corporate status, you must file the appropriate annual filings with the Secretary of the State. Of particular importance is your business office, mailing address and agent for service. The status of your association can be checked at the following website:
